CEDAW
Tobacco Industry Accountability

ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN

In 2024, I partnered with Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) to develop a powerful campaign connecting tobacco control with women’s rights under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). This initiative amplified global awareness of the ways in which the tobacco industry exploits and harms women and girls, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. See the full campaign here.

The Campaign’s Impact

A Groundbreaking Report: We created a comprehensive report detailing how tobacco industry tactics violate women’s rights by targeting them with predatory marketing, fueling economic hardship, and driving health inequities.

Global Advocacy Tools: We designed infographics, policy briefs, and messaging guides to equip advocates and policymakers with clear, actionable information.

CEDAW Committee Engagement: Our materials directly influenced international discussions on tobacco and gender equity, reinforcing the need for stronger protections under human rights frameworks.

Social Media Amplification: The campaign gained significant traction, driving engagement across platforms and strengthening the conversation around tobacco, women’s health, and corporate accountability.
